About the Film

Synopsis

Located in the Pico Union neighborhood of Los Angeles, Hoover Elementary is a school where 90 percent of the students are originally from Mexico or Central America, speaking more than 30 different languages among them. Following the passing of Proposition 187 in the mid 1990s, many of these students found themselves at risk of losing their right to education. This documentary examines the divided opinions on the issues of bilingual studies and the rights and legal status of undocumented immigrants, and has a haunting resonance of the anti-immigrant sentiment of today.
